Cadence Design Systems announced on July 3 that it is restoring access to its electronic design automation (EDA) tools in China after the U.S. government lifted recent export restrictions. These restrictions, part of a broader trade dispute involving rare-earth minerals, had temporarily blocked Chinese clients from accessing Cadence’s software—critical for chip design and semiconductor development.

The decision aligns with other major EDA firms—most notably Synopsys and Siemens—which have also begun reinstating services following government notifications. Collectively, these three companies control more than 70% of China’s EDA market, making the moves pivotal to reviving China’s semiconductor design capabilities.
