20th Century Studios revealed on social media that the sequel to the 2006 hit film has officially started filming, marking a major moment for fans of fashion-centric cinema.

The timing is notable: the production news landed alongside Anna Wintour’s announcement that she is leaving her post as Vogue’s editor-in-chief after almost four decades—a tenure that partly inspired Meryl Streep’s formidable Miranda Priestly.

Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all return for the sequel, while Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh joins the cast. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also reprise their roles behind the camera.

The original movie was adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s bestseller, itself drawn from her time as Wintour’s assistant. Wintour, once uneasy about comparisons to Priestly, later praised the film for highlighting the demanding work behind a glossy magazine.

Plot details and a release date remain under wraps, but industry watchers say the sequel could explore the digital transformation of fashion media—paralleling the real-world shift Wintour navigated during her storied career.
